Apprentices’ sustainable ideas impress judges of Innovators’ Global Challenge

Congratulations to our team of first and second year aircraft engineering apprentices from Lasham who made it through to the finals of The Air League’s Innovators’ Global Challenge at this year’s Sustainable Skies World Summit, held at Farnborough last week, with their proposed solution for a greener cleaner sustainable aviation fuel of the future.

Although they were not the eventual winners, they certainly made a great impression, ranking amongst the top six teams in the country.

The CEO of The Air League, Janine Hornsby, said: “The judges were genuinely blown away by your ideas, professionalism, and the quality of your proposals — you’ve left a lasting impression.

“Your hard work and creativity truly shone through.”

Engineering Training Manager at 2Excel, Mike Irving, said: “We are immensely proud of the hard work the team put in for this challenge. They are an asset to the company, and to the aviation industry.

“Their thoughts and research around the future of sustainable aviation showed a maturity and vision beyond their years, and I look forward to seeing what this team comes up with as they progress through their apprenticeships and into their careers.”

Tyler Parker, representing 2Excel as part of the team said: “Presenting our own ideas, and hearing other fresh concepts for the future of the aviation and aerospace industries was an amazing opportunity and an interesting experience to take part in.”

The team members will shortly each be enjoying a flight in an electric aircraft courtesy of Saxon Air as a reward for their incredible performance.
